Tap to Pay — in-person card donations

Tap to Pay turns a fundraiser's Android phone into a card terminal: at an event or door-to-door, the donor taps their own card (or phone wallet) on your team member's phone and the donation is charged on the spot — no card reader hardware, no typing card numbers.

Availability

Tap to Pay is currently being rolled out and is not switched on in the Pledgix mobile app for general use. The full charging pipeline is built and ready; the in-app "Tap Card" mode is held back while the rollout is finalized. If your organization runs in-person events and wants tap donations, contact the Pledgix team — we can discuss enabling it for your account.

When active, the feature is available by default on Pledgix One campaigns and above (the Pledgix team can adjust feature access for a specific campaign on request), and it requires:

  • The Pledgix mobile app on an Android phone with NFC
  • The certified Sola Tap to Pay helper app installed on that phone
  • A team member with permission to add donations to the campaign

How a tap donation works

  1. Your team member opens Add Donation in the app and chooses the Tap to Pay mode.
  2. They enter the amount (and optionally the donor's name, email, and team attribution — a walk-up tap can be recorded with nothing but the card).
  3. The phone hands off to the certified helper app; the donor taps their card.
  4. The charge completes immediately through your campaign's payment account, and the donation appears in your dashboard right away.

Security is built into the design: the card is read by the certified helper app and the encrypted payload goes straight to the payment gateway. Card numbers never pass through Pledgix, and no payment keys ever live on the phone.

How tap donations appear in your CRM

Tap donations show in your Donations CRM with the Tap to Pay method, so you can filter and export them separately — handy for reconciling an event night. They count toward your campaign total the moment the charge approves, exactly like an online card donation, and the donor receives a receipt if you captured their email.

What Tap to Pay is not

  • It is not available in a web browser or on iPhone — the tap flow is Android-app only.
  • It does not store the donor's card. Each tap is a one-time charge; if you want to set the donor up with a recurring plan instead, use the Add Donation recurring mode with the card details they give you.
Tip: Until Tap to Pay is enabled for your account, the fastest way to take in-person card gifts is the Add Donation → charge card flow — your team member types the card details and the charge runs live, from any device.
