How do I see failed donations?

Failed donation attempts aren't hidden — they have their own tab in your Donations table. Your Donations view is split into four tabs: Successful, Pending / Failed / Refunds, Abandoned, and (on campaigns with matching enabled) Matching.

Steps

  1. Open your campaign and go to Donations.
  2. Switch to the Pending / Failed / Refunds tab. Every declined card and payment that didn't complete is listed there, each with its status badge.
  3. Use the Status filter to narrow to Failed only if you want just the declines.
  4. Click any row to see the donor's contact details — useful for a polite follow-up call ("your card didn't go through, would you like to try again?").

The Abandoned tab

Separate from failures, the Abandoned tab lists checkouts a donor started but walked away from before any payment was attempted — declines never appear here. It's a follow-up goldmine after a big push.

On both failed and abandoned rows, look for the "Possible successful match found" hint — it means the same donor did eventually complete a gift, so no follow-up is needed. Click it to jump straight to their successful donation.

Other statuses worth checking

The status filter on the Pending / Failed / Refunds tab also covers Pending (started but not confirmed — pledges and uncollected gifts), Refunded, Partially Refunded, Disputed, and Charged Back. Failed and pending donations never count toward your campaign total.

Recovering a failed gift

A failed donation can't be "retried" from the dashboard by you — either the donor gives again through your page, or, if they're on the phone with you, use Charge Card to process a fresh payment (then the failed row simply remains as history).

Tip: After a big event, work the Failed, Pending, and Abandoned lists within 48 hours — recovery rates drop fast once the excitement fades. For why cards decline, see Troubleshooting a declined donation, and for what each status means, Understanding donation statuses.
