How do I add a dedication to an existing donation?

Yes — dedications can be added or changed after the fact. Edit the donation and fill in the Dedication Message field; it shows publicly alongside the gift on your campaign page.

Steps

  1. Open your campaign and go to Donations.
  2. Find the donation and open it for editing (row ⋮ menu → Edit).
  3. Scroll to the Dedication Message field ("Visible to the public on the campaign page") and type the text — for example, "In honor of Rabbi Cohen" or "In memory of Sarah bat Moshe".
  4. Save. The dedication appears with the donation in the public feed.

This works for every donation type — online gifts included. Even though an online donation's amount and payment method are locked, the dedication, team credit, and notes remain editable.

One caveat: if the gift is anonymous, its dedication is hidden on the public feed along with the name — a dedication usually reveals who gave. The text is saved on the record either way and reappears if the donation is ever un-anonymized.

Public vs private notes

Don't confuse the two fields next to each other in the edit form:

  • Dedication Message — public, shown to everyone on your campaign page.
  • Internal Notes — private, visible only to your campaign staff in the dashboard.
Tip: Donors often phone in a dedication after donating ("I forgot to write it's for my father's yahrzeit") — this edit takes seconds, so encourage your team to pass those requests along. For dedications built into your giving levels, see Merit and dedication lines on tiers.
