Why some of your funds may be held

Two kinds of "holding"
If your Pledgix Go or Pledgix One campaign has raised money you can't withdraw yet, one of two standard safeguards is usually at work:
- The payout hold period — a waiting period after your compliance approval before disbursements begin.
- The reserve — a percentage of funds kept back temporarily and released later.
Both exist for the same reason: donations can be refunded or disputed by the cardholder for a while after they're made. Holding a portion briefly protects your campaign (and your donors) from ending up in the negative if that happens. This is standard practice across the payments industry.
The payout hold period
When the Pledgix team approves your compliance documents, a hold period starts counting from the approval date — 90 days by default, though your campaign may be configured differently. Your approval email states the exact date your hold ends; after that date, disbursements to your payout method can begin.
Tip: Use the hold period productively — add and verify your payout method, so the moment your hold ends, nothing else stands between you and your first disbursement. See Setting up your payout method.
The reserve
Your campaign may also have a reserve percentage — a share of your payable net (what's left of your online donations after the processing fees and the Pledgix platform fee on each donation) held back temporarily and released by the team in line with your reserve terms. If your reserve configuration is ever set or changed, you'll receive an email spelling it out plainly, for example: "10% held for 90 days."
The reserve is fully transparent in your payout records. The payout history table in your Payouts & Transactions tab shows each payout's net amount, and the payout record itself carries the full math:
- Gross amount — the funds the payout covers
- Reserve held — the portion kept back under your reserve terms
- Platform fee — any Pledgix fee itemized on the payout record (your platform fee is normally already deducted per donation)
- Net amount — what's actually sent to you
Reserved funds are not fees — they remain your money and are disbursed when the team releases them under your reserve terms.
What can delay a payout
Beyond the hold period and reserve, a few situations can slow disbursements down:
- Compliance status isn't Approved yet. Documents still in review, or an Action Required status, pause the path to payouts. Check the campaign chat (the chat icon in your campaign header) — it will tell you exactly what's needed.
- An open payment dispute. If a donor's bank has opened a dispute (chargeback) on a donation, all payouts for the campaign are held until the dispute resolves — contested money must not go out the door while it's undecided.
- DAF grant money still in transit. Donor-advised fund grants become payable only once the grant actually arrives in the bank. Until then they show as DAF in transit on your balance dashboard, visible but not withdrawable.
- No verified payout method. If your bank details haven't been confirmed yet, the team will reach out to verify them before sending significant funds.
- A returned payout. If a transfer bounces (for example, a closed account), it's reissued once your payout details are corrected.
- Currency that can't be converted safely. A donation whose fees can't be converted exactly into your campaign's currency waits until it can be recorded precisely — the math is never guessed.
On Pledgix Pro and Political campaigns, where funds settle to your own gateway account, a separate fund-hold mechanism can apply on some processing setups — the Pledgix team manages and releases those holds and will let you know if one affects you.
Questions about your specific numbers?
Your reserve terms and hold dates are specific to your campaign. If you're unsure what applies to yours, or you believe funds should have been released already:
- Message the compliance team in the campaign chat (the chat icon in your campaign header), or
- Choose Help & Support from your account menu.
Mention your campaign name and, if relevant, the payout number (like PO-0003) — we can trace every dollar.
