Text-message keywords — STOP, START, and HELP

Recipients are always in control

Anyone who receives a text from Pledgix can manage their own subscription by texting a keyword back. These keywords are an industry standard, and Pledgix honors them automatically — you don't configure anything, and you can't override them.

The keyword must be the whole message (case doesn't matter): "STOP" opts out; "please stop texting me" is treated as an ordinary reply and lands in your Replies inbox instead.

STOP — opting out

Recognized words: STOP, STOPALL, STOP ALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, REVOKE, OPTOUT, OPT OUT.

When someone texts any of these:

  • Their number is added to the platform-wide Do Not Contact list. This is deliberate and important: a STOP blocks that number from every Pledgix sender — all campaigns, SMS, WhatsApp, and voice broadcasts — not just yours.
  • They receive one final confirmation: "You have been unsubscribed and will receive no further messages. Reply START to resubscribe."
  • The opt-out takes effect immediately for all future sends.

You cannot remove a STOP from your dashboard. Only the recipient can reverse it, by texting START.

START — opting back in

Recognized words: START, UNSTOP, SUBSCRIBE, OPTIN, OPT IN.

Texting one of these reverses a previous STOP and sends the confirmation: "You have been resubscribed. Reply STOP to unsubscribe."

START only undoes an opt-out the person created by texting STOP. It does not lift blocks added for other reasons — a number on the Do Not Call list because of a complaint, a voice-broadcast opt-out, or a manual entry stays blocked.

HELP — asking for information

Recognized words: HELP, INFO. These are support keywords: the carrier may send an informational auto-reply, and the message is kept out of your Replies inbox so it isn't mistaken for a conversation.

What you see as the sender

Every blast — SMS, WhatsApp, and team texts alike — is screened against the Do Not Contact list at send time, so someone who opted out after you scheduled a blast is still excluded when it actually goes out.

Blocked recipients aren't hidden: they appear in the per-recipient delivery list with a DNC blocked status (WhatsApp shows DNC or Opted out), so your counts always add up. A team whose every number is blocked is reported that way rather than silently skipped.

Tip: Opt-outs are normal and healthy — they keep your sender reputation clean with the carriers. What hurts deliverability is people marking you as spam because they couldn't find another way out. Never try to work around a STOP by texting from another number; the block applies platform-wide for exactly that reason.

Your campaign also has its own Do Not Call list for numbers you choose to block yourself — see Do Not Call and opt-out management for how the two lists work together.
