Page performance and caching: why edits can take a minute

You save a change in Design & Media, open your public page — and it still shows the old version. A minute later, it's there. Nothing is wrong: that short delay is a deliberate trade that keeps your page fast for donors everywhere. Here's how it works and what to expect.

How your page is served

When someone visits your campaign, they don't wait for Pledgix to assemble the page from scratch. Instead, a ready-made copy of your page is kept at locations around the world, close to your visitors. That copy is treated as fresh for about a minute; after that, the next visitor triggers a quiet refresh behind the scenes.

The payoff is significant:

  • Speed — donors get the page almost instantly, wherever they are.
  • Resilience — when your link goes viral or your event crowd scans the QR code all at once, thousands of visitors are served from the ready copies without strain. Your page stays up precisely when it matters most.

What it means for your edits

  • Most changes appear on the public page within about a minute of saving.
  • Occasionally a location serves its slightly older copy a bit longer while fetching the new one — in rare cases an edit can take a few minutes to reach everyone.
  • Different visitors may briefly see different versions during that window. It resolves on its own.

There's no "publish" button you're missing and no purge switch to press — saving is publishing; the copies simply catch up on their schedule.

Tip: Made an edit and want to confirm it took? Wait a minute, then check View Live — or open your page in a private browsing window. If you still see the old version after a few minutes, the culprit is usually your own browser's memory: try a hard refresh or another device.

What is never delayed: your live totals

Here's the part that surprises people: while the page's layout and text come from cached copies, your fundraising numbers are live. The amount raised, donor count, progress bar, and the recent donations feed are fed by a real-time connection that updates the moment a gift is processed — even for a visitor looking at a cached copy of the page. The same is true for the Live Screen at events.

In other words: edit your story and it takes a minute to show; receive a donation and it shows in seconds.

Timing edits around a big moment

Since edits take up to a few minutes to propagate:

  • Before a launch or event, make your final content changes at least ten minutes ahead, then verify with View Live.
  • Mid-event announcements (like unveiling a matching round) benefit from the same buffer — flip the switch a few minutes before you announce it from the stage.
  • Typo fixes during quiet hours need no planning at all — save and move on.

Related timing you might notice

  • Social preview cards are cached separately, by the apps themselves (WhatsApp, Facebook), and can lag much longer than the page — see How your page looks when shared.
  • Custom domains behave exactly like your pledgix.com address; connecting one doesn't change any of the timing above.
Tip: If a change hasn't appeared after ten minutes on multiple devices, that's no longer caching — double-check the edit was actually saved in your dashboard, and if it was, contact support through the Help Center with your campaign name and what you changed.
